PRESS RELEASE
The Consulate General of Nepal for Hong Kong and Macao SARs hosted the national day reception on 20 September 2023 in Shangri-La Hotel in Hong Kong. The Guest of Honour for the occasion was Mr. Eric Chan Kwok-ki, Chief Secretary for Administration, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the People’s Republic of China.
ln his address to the audience, Consul General of Nepal Mr. Udaya Bahadur Rana Magar paid homage to the known and unknown martyrs who lost their lives for the nation. He also highlighted the long history of the Nepali community in Hong Kong as part of British Gurkha and their contribution to the economy and society of Hong Kong. The Consul General concluded by emphasising that Nepal was “open for business, open for tourists and open for investment” after the pandemic.
Guest of Honour, Mr. Kwok-ki praised the Nepali community’s long-standing contributions to Hong Kong. He highlighted that Hong Kong will continue to forge a strong relationship with Nepal through cultural exchanges, trade and investment. The Guest of Honour also presented tokens of appreciation on behalf of the Consulate to community-based Nepali organisations which have all supported and engaged with the Nepali community and the Consulate in various capacities. A cultural program showcasing Nepali and Chinese dances featuring Nepali performers based in Hong Kong was also displayed.
The reception was attended by senior officials of the Hong Kong SAR government, members of the Consular Corps in Hong Kong, non-government, and business organisations, community leaders and business persons from the Nepali community in Hong Kong and Macao.
