The Consulate General of Nepal for Hong Kong and Macao SARs hosted the National Day (Constitution Day) reception on today in Hong Kong. The Guest of Honour for the occasion was Mr. Cheuk Wing-hing, GBS, JP, Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration of the Government of HKSAR of the People’s Republic of China with special guest Mr. Fang Jianming, Deputy Commissioner, Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Hong Kong SAR.
ln his address to the audience, Consul General of Nepal Mr. Udaya Bahadur Ranamagar paid homage to the martyrs who lost their lives for the nation and emphasised the importance of the constitution in the socio-economic transformation of Nepal. Mr. Ranamagar also emphasised the close diplomatic relations between Nepal and China as evident in the multiple high-level visits exchanged in the past year.
Guest of Honour, Mr. Cheuk praised the Nepali community’s long-standing contributions to Hong Kong and stressed that Hong Kong will continue to forge a strong relationship with Nepal through cultural exchanges, trade, and investment.
The Consul General presented tokens of appreciation to outstanding members of the Nepali community who have supported and engaged with the Nepali community and the Consulate. Newa Samaj Hong Kong organised a lakhey dance performance much to the delight of the audience, who were also able to sample Nepali cuisine and learn about Nepali handicrafts and other items.
The reception was attended by senior officials of the Hong Kong SAR government and the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Hong Kong SAR, members of the Consular Corps in Hong Kong, non-government, and business organisations, community leaders and businesspersons from the Nepali community in Hong Kong and Macao.
